The University of Idaho is going to seek approval from its Board of Regents to have the Vandals play Bowl Subdivision football as an independent and jump into the Big Sky Conference in its other sports.

The key nugget in there is it might cost the Vandals $1.5 million to surrender its football status and come back to the Championship Subdivision (and to play its old rivals like the Montana Grizzlies). I guess I’d like to see if those numbers add up in another fiscal year.

On the other hand, the Vandals and Griz could be lining up on the gridiron anyway. It doesn’t seem likely to me that many FBS teams will sign a home-and-home with a visit to beautiful Moscow, Idaho.

I could be wrong. We shall see.
