Second take on the QBs
After watching Trent McKinney have another fine practice while leading the No. 1 offense for the Montana Grizzlies, it looks like the redshirt freshman out of Hawaii is the frontrunner to start at QB.
Griz coach Mick Delaney confirmed it:
“Like any position on the team, you compete every day. But he (McKinney) has put himself in position where right now, where he’s working with the ones and he is No. 1.”
Then he added that competition remains open with the other three quarterbacks in camp. As if to confirm it, Adam Brzeczek looked solid in Thursday’s morning practice.
With true freshman Brady Gustafson able to red-shirt, it still remains to be seen if Shay Smithwick-Hann and Brzeczek can push their way into the picture. That’s kind of what Delaney had in mind at the start: He talked of the possibility of playing two QBs at least early on.
“That still could happen,” he said again Wednesday.
