The real cost of Nevada’s upset of Boise State
In case you missed it, a couple of former Big Sky Conference rivals met on the football field last weekend, and a good Nevada Wolfpack team beat the favored Boise State Broncos in OT.
Now comes this story from businessinsider.com: Nevada’s victory, because it cost the Broncos a berth in one of the BCS bowls, cost the Wolfpack athletic department nearly $1 million. Much of the money awarded Boise State would be divided among the Western Athletic Conference teams.
And for the record, Nevada is not the “little sisters of the poor.” That’s a fine ball club with a 4-year starter at QB. In a perfect world, I’d see Boise State take on the Buckeyes of The Ohio State, whose president, E. Gordon Gee, made the sisters of the poor reference. Just to see what happens.
