Third time the charm and final-final?

News broke Friday out of Las Vegas that Montana football coach Bobby Hauck is a finalist for the UNLV head coaching job. I wondered when something might pop. As a sports writer you always hope to be out in front of it, but I figured if Bobby was too busy to interview I was too busy to write about what might be. He’s interviewing Sunday.

At any rate, the timing sets up pretty good for Hauck. Jim Livengood was named the AD at UNLV only Thursday. Without an AD the Rebels couldn’t complete a coach search. And searches don’t go on forever: I believe last year’s Griz win at James Madison – an amazing win - took Hauck out of the running for the San Diego State job. He had to coach another week, and the Aztecs couldn’t wait.

Meanwhile, the Griz have a game to play and, they hope, win against the Villanova Wildcats. It poured here today, but the rain has quit as of now. It’s Hauck’s third trip to Chattanooga as a head coach. He’s 0h-fer-2, but this team has some serious mojo. It’s been a great mix of Montana kids and out-of-state talent, of small-town , home town, and big-city. Here’s hoping for a possible fitting finale for Hauck – if in fact wins and takes the UNLV job – and his seniors. A third Division I Football Championship trophy would look nice in the Hall of Champions.

The Grizzlies are a great football team, any team that can produce 14 straight wins must be.

I’m sure that you have noticed a pattern here in the playoff finals. The teams that come out of the CAA are physically superior, in most cases, than teams from any other conference. It’s like the SEC conference in big time college football. The CAA produces teams that are big, strong, and fast. You must have this team make-up to survive a schedule in that conference.

I am a fan of the University of Delaware. Our school is about 35 miles south of Philadelphia Pa, where Villanova is located. There have been many battles fought between the Wildcats and the Blue Hens. These games are very entertaining, but so are the games with William&Mary,UMASS,Richmond,New Hampshire,James Madison and Maine. These teams hit hard and will hurt you!

I would like to see Montana play at least one CAA team every year. Alternate coming east one year and a team traveling to Missoula the next year. I know that your stadium is a very inhospitable environment for visiting teams. These games would be very entertaining.

As far as these FBS finals go, I think that when you loose these games, it always seems like you get worn down in the second half when playing the teams from the CAA.

When all is said and done though, Montana own 2 rings. You must be doing something right.

1/12/10 maybe when pflu reselects his coaches he should keep it a secret so bobby can not steal them again.
