Probably the best defensive linebackers in the country and the defense will be much improved. In fact, we played our best defensive game against the Cats last season in a loss but to hold them to 16 or whatever it was, was a great performance and showed the improvement of the younger players over the course of the season. Lider will get it back I bet...meanwhile we have two experienced back ups for Johnson and a new running back, coupled with Canada that will be an immediate impact on offense and should open up the passing game for us a little more as well. I predict 9-2 and the playoffs. I don't know if we can run the table but I do think we have a shot.

I'll fix Sampson. Thanks for being such an even-handed, level-headed editor. Maybe I had Brock Spencer on my brain -- he led the Cats over No. 1 Idaho in his first start. In 1993. That's how old and senile I am.

I didn't see the play Schreibeis was suspended for, but it sounded like a 50-50 deal. And no way do I feel the refs are/were biased toward the Cats; again -- and this probably won't do me any good -- I was talking in general terms about getting breaks, including calls going your way. Sometimes you have it, sometimes you don't and when it rains it pours, you know? I no longer feel they missed the call on McGhee's end zone pass; so there's that.
I really liked ROOT's coverage this year. If you want unbiased, ROOT had it for ya. Didn't catch too many of MSU's pre-2012 telecasts, so can I assume they were better in terms of game production and some of the commentary we got from KPAX/MTN?
Anyway, good season. Enjoy a victory cigar. Beat Nova/Stony Brook.

Oh Yeah, Shaun SAMPSON is a former walk-on center for the Cats, we have no idea who Shaun Spencer is.

Did you see the play that Schreibeis was suspended for? It was much less blatant and happened right at the line of scrimmage. My comment about UM having to follow the same rules is just my frustration over articles like this one and others that seem to indicate that the reffing was biased towards the Bobcats. Its not just you, I have seen it in several papers across the state and while it isn't true, the retraction is always buried as far as can be if they are published at all. Oh, and the ROOT announcers are not an authority in any manner, their mistakes both in rules, knowledge of the game and the rivalry are too numerous to list here.

I'm not sure if Hermanson will get suspended or not; I'm sure it will get reviewed, as did Morales' hit on Gratton a couple weeks ago (Morales was not suspended).
To answer your question, No, I don't feel UM should be exempt from the same rules as other Big Sky teams. I'm not sure where you came up with that.
Watching the ROOT telecast, their sideline guy called Hermanson's a hit "a football play," but it was also clearly helmet-to-helmet. As for the Bienemann/Takai play, I'll just say you can get away with a lot more on screen plays. And if I heard the official right (on the telecast), he said No. 95 (Takai).
And yep, Tray Robinson was the intended receiver on the non-grounding/safety screen play.

Thanks for checking on the rules Fritz, most of us knew that when it happened. Also it was Robinson #7 that was the eligible receiver not Davis #8.
the BSC stats site list the penalty on Bienemann, if it was on him then it was on the hit above the shoulders on a defenseless receiver which it certainly was. What is your source that it was on Takai who did throw the ball in an unsportsmanlike like manner.

Do you think the BSC should suspend Bienemann and Hermanson for one game next year, like they have other players committing these types of hits in the last several years. Or do you feel that UM should be exempt from the same rules that the other BSC teams have to play under.

Nice excuses and they will now be referred to as 'facts'. This was a high level game that was called as if it were playoff caliber. Lots of down field contact that was aggressive play. The Griz could have had a few more calls against them and the Cats also. It was decided on the field with the players. The Griz now have an opportunity to put together an updated program. I still see another two years away from the playoffs and some reduction in scholarships. The Cats will now expect the Griz fans to support this Montana team that has a Montana player in the one/two position for all offense positions and a ton of Montana talent on "D". Go Cats!!!!
